About Marlon
Marlon Howes was born in North London England in 1963 and moved to Hertfordshire with his parents Jean and Ken as a young child.
He has over 20 years experience training dogs and has lived with them all his life. He got married in 1991 and shortly after he and his wife, April, bought a country cottage with land where they got their first dog together, “Pelham” a Golden Retriever (who spent the last year of his life here in Malta). This was followed shortly by the births of their children Tilly and Sky. Next to join the household in quick succession were Rocky, Smokey and Flint, black Labradors with whom Marlon won many awards including the British Gun Dog Championship with an entry of over 3,000 dogs.
They also had two Springer Spaniels, Sally and Spot who went on to become sniffer dogs with the British Drug Squad.
Not all the dogs lived in the house some were kept in their own centrally heated kennels in the field outside which also housed rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks, chickens and not least a pond with the koi carp!
Marlon trained numerous dogs in the UK for private clients with aggression and socialising problems, also general house training, walking on lead, retrieving etc. he also training working dogs to the whistle winning competitions all around the country.
Shortly after his arrival in Malta three years ago Marlon decided to offer his services as a dog trainer on a one to one basis and quickly realised the need for somewhere on the island for dog owners to be able to take their dogs to let them play and socialise off lead.
He opened Pelham’s Dog Fun Park (name after their beloved Golden Retriever) in December 2009 and the reception has been fabulous.
After only one month Pelhams already has over 100 members with waiting lists for classes which are held on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Weekends are especially busy with all sorts of dogs (and their owners of course) coming to enjoy the informal atmosphere and the opportunity to socialise with both dogs and their owners.
